The program is designed to uplift the learning standards of the poor through provision of learning aids to poor schools to bolster enrolment and retention rates, and also to offer scholarships to needy students - not only among the urban poor but across Kenya, Africa and Latin America.

Between 1999 and 2012, the world saw a decrease in out-of-school adolescents in every region except for Sub-Saharan Africa. Although aspects of education in Africa has improved, including more children being knowledgeable about HIV and AIDS, many obstacles remain. Below are quick facts on education in Africa to illustrate the ongoing struggle.

In Latin America, although most poor children enter first grade, they enroll in schools of lower quality, and are more likely to drop out after completing a few grades.
In slum areas, many of the poorest children are not able to benefit from education because there are few public primary schools and almost no secondary schools in these communities.
Many children in Sub-Saharan Africa are not well-equipped to learn due to illness, malnutrition, or income deprivation.
